A Quick visit

This mourning a Black Cormorant visited!
He seamed to like it, but I still need to plant more natives around it.

Black Cormorant
Phalacrocorax carbo

Black Cormorants are 88 cm. high and weigh 2.2 kg..
There are 5,000-10,000 pairs in New Zealand. They nest in colonies. Most colonies are composed of 5-10, but many number up to 50 pairs in places.
Colonies are started in trees hanging over water, cliff ledges or even  on the ground.
Nests are constructed from twig ,flax, raopo(Bulrush), and cabbage tree leaves. They lay 2-3 blue-green eggs 2 days apart.
One Black Cormorant banded in Europe lived nearly 20 years.
