Bird-ing

my birding note book
I love birding! It's so fun. I am home-schooled so I like to do it during my breaks and afternoons. I put my lists on Ebird to keep track of it easily. My birding patch is teetotal flats. I have seen a White Heron   (Ardea modesta)
there before, but I haven't see "Herbert " recently.

If  I want to look at photos of the birds I've seen I go to NZ birds-online . It has many good photos on there.

I like to make bird houses for the garden. The problem is that I can't find patterns for New Zealand birds. So I'm trying patterns for other birds.

I put out food too. Putting tall sticks in the ground gives the tomtit (Petroica macrocephala
macrocephala)pair somewhere to perch. I also put a floating island in the pond in case a shag visits.

Our pond is not very "birdy" so I am planting plants there. I haven't planted much yet because the pond is iced over, but I hope to plant some in spring.
