Hoddy park and a new blog.
Any way this is a Birding blog. I heard a Kakariki this morning..arrrr that was not all, was it?
No. Yesterday we took my best camera,Chopsticks, in to town we also went to Hoddy Park with our friends. It was a nice, sunny day and the tide was in. There were plenty (well kind of) birds around. Grey teal, Australian Shoveler, Grey Duck, New Zealand Scaup and Mallard swimmed around on the pond.
When the tide went out the waders started to arrive. The problem was I had no Binos (Binoculars), so I could not id them. There were (I know) Pukeko, White-face Heron, Sacred Kingfisher, Spur-winged Plover and Black-backed gull. There were Little Shags, but none in the colony tree.
Goldfinches,House Sparrows, Silvereyes, Greenfinches and Chaffinches were abundant. There were other passerines to like fantail and tui.
I just made a new blog, Young Birder's birding, for my lists and sightings. It is currently very simple, but I shall work on it.
Here is a video of a South Island robin at my house. Please play it on mute as it is noisy!!
